A fantastic summer...the best is yet to come
We’ve had a really great summer. While the weather may not have been as amazing as a year ago, that didn’t dampen spirits in the restaurant. We had tourists visit us from many parts of the globe and it was a pleasure to hear how much they were enjoying their stay in Waterford. As the the 2019 Foodie Destination of the Year, let’s hope we will see a boost in food tourism in Waterford for 2019/2020. Congratulations to all at Food the Waterford Way on all their hard work that resulted in bringing home the prize.
There was a real effort made to attract tourists and locals alike into the city during the summer months thanks to “Summer in the City” with great events and music. Our summer lunch offer went down well and we hope to bring it back again next year.
We were very fortunate to be shortlisted for start up of the year at the Food and Wine awards. We didn’t win on the night, that accolade going to Uno Mas, but we had a fantastic day out and got to meet some lovely people such as Niamh Fox from Little Fox in Ennistymon and Siobhan and Aoife Flaherty from Gather Restaurant in Tuam who were great craic. Also at our table was Sham Hanifa from the Cottage Restaurant in Leitrim, and we welcome Sham for a pop-up lunch at Everett’s for the Waterford Harvest Festival. Now in it’s 11th year, the festival gets bigger and better. Well done to all those involved.
Another highlight was the Food Heroes event at Avalon House in Castlecomer, where Peter cooked alongside his old (!) mentor Graham Neville from Dax Restaurtant, his good friend Stephane Doralis also of Dax, and head chef at Avalon House Cathal O’Dowd. The night celebrated the best home grown food producers in the locality and was a resounding success.
It’s hard to believe that we have our Christmas page back up on the website and the bookings are coming in once again! Before then, we’ll enjoy the Harvest, have a little break at the start of October, and come back refreshed for the busy run up to the end of the year.
Hope to see you all in the coming weeks,
Peter and Keith
